Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Patrice Motsepe stated on Sunday, March 29, 2026, that he would respect the forthcoming decision from the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) regarding Senegal's appeal. The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) has taken the case to CAS after CAF stripped Senegal of its 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN) title.

The title was withdrawn following a CAF Disciplinary Board ruling in February 2026. The board found Senegal guilty of fielding an ineligible player during the tournament's final against Algeria. As a result, Algeria was declared the champion.

Motsepe's comments, made during a press conference in Johannesburg, emphasized the importance of due process. "We will respect the decision of CAS," he said, according to verified reports. "It is important for African football that rules are applied and that there is an independent body where such decisions can be reviewed."

The CAS has confirmed it has registered the appeal from the FSF. A hearing date has not yet been publicly announced. The outcome will determine whether Senegal's title is reinstated or if Algeria's award is upheld.
