Confederation of African Football (Caf) president Patrice Motsepe has assured that the 'deficiencies' that marred the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) final in Rabat on 18 January have been dealt with. The match, held at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, faced organizational issues that led to a subsequent move of the event.
Motsepe stated that African football emerged from the tournament 'stronger than ever before,' despite the challenges. He emphasized that lessons were learned and improvements have been implemented to ensure smoother operations in future competitions.
The final, which saw Senegal defeat Egypt on penalties, was overshadowed by crowd control problems and ticketing irregularities. Caf has since reviewed security protocols and venue management procedures.
Motsepe's comments came during a press conference on 14 May 2026, where he also highlighted the overall success of the tournament in showcasing African talent. He reaffirmed Caf's commitment to hosting world-class events across the continent.
