Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Patrice Motsepe has publicly rejected accusations of corruption made by Senegal's football federation regarding the organization of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The allegations emerged after Morocco was awarded the hosting rights for the tournament.
In a statement, Motsepe asserted, "There is nothing to hide," and emphasized that the bidding process was transparent and followed all regulations. He stated that CAF would be willing to provide any necessary documentation to relevant authorities to clear the air.
The dispute centers on Senegal's claim that the process leading to Morocco's selection was flawed. The Senegalese Football Federation had previously expressed strong disappointment and suggested foul play after their own bid was unsuccessful.
CAF has not provided specific details of the bidding evaluation but maintains that the decision was made in the best interest of African football. The organization has faced similar governance controversies in the past, though Motsepe's presidency has aimed to improve financial transparency.
