CAF President Patrice Motsepe has congratulated Senegal and eight other African national teams for qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, according to a statement released on June 29, 2026. The qualified teams include Senegal, Morocco, Nigeria, Egypt, Cameroon, Ghana, Tunisia, Algeria, and Ivory Coast.
Motsepe praised the teams for their dedication and performance during the qualifiers, highlighting the strength of African football. 'This is a proud moment for African football, and I commend all the teams for their hard work and determination,' Motsepe said in the statement.
The 2026 World Cup, which will be hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, marks the first edition with 48 teams, giving Africa nine slots. The tournament is scheduled to take place from June 8 to July 3, 2026.
Senegal, the reigning Africa Cup of Nations champions, secured their spot with a strong qualifying campaign, while other teams like Morocco and Nigeria also impressed. The nine African teams will aim to improve on the continent's best performance, which was reaching the quarterfinals by Cameroon in 1990, Senegal in 2002, and Ghana in 2010.
