CAF's communication department confirmed to fact-checking agencies that no such decision has been made, as the AFCON 2025 tournament has not yet taken place. The next edition of the tournament is scheduled to be held in Morocco in mid-2025.
Senegal are the reigning AFCON champions, having won the 2021 edition (played in 2022) in Cameroon. The false report appears to be a piece of disinformation, potentially aimed at creating sporting or political tension between the nations.
