The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially confirmed Morocco as the host nation for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The decision, announced on March 21, 2026, follows a period of uncertainty after the original host, Guinea, was stripped of the tournament in 2022 due to infrastructure concerns.
CAF President Patrice Motsepe stated that Morocco was selected due to its proven infrastructure and experience hosting major football events. The tournament is scheduled for June and July 2025, maintaining the summer schedule adopted in recent editions.
In related commentary, former FIFA World Player of the Year and current Liberian Senator George Weah recently emphasized the authority of match officials. "The referee is the final authority on the pitch," Weah was quoted as saying in a separate interview, highlighting the importance of respecting decisions during play.
The 2025 edition will be the second time Morocco hosts the continental championship, having previously staged the tournament in 1988. The confirmation ends speculation and allows qualified nations to begin preparations for the finals.
