However, the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) has expressed reservations about Infantino's re-election bid. Sources within CONMEBOL indicate concerns over governance and the distribution of resources, though no formal opposition candidate has emerged yet. CONMEBOL's stance could influence the election, as it holds a bloc of votes in the FIFA Congress.
Infantino, first elected in 2016 and re-elected unopposed in 2019 and 2023, has not yet officially announced his candidacy for the next term, but is widely expected to run. The election will be held at the 74th FIFA Congress, scheduled for March 2027 in Qatar.
