The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced the procedures for the draw of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, scheduled to take place on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, in Cairo, Egypt.
The draw will determine the groups for the qualifying phase, which will involve 48 national teams competing for 24 spots in the final tournament. The 2027 AFCON is set to be hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, marking the first time the tournament will be co-hosted by three nations.
According to CAF, the draw will be conducted based on the latest FIFA World Rankings. The teams will be divided into pots, with the top-ranked teams placed in Pot 1. The exact seeding and group composition will be confirmed during the ceremony.
The qualifiers are expected to begin in September 2026, with matches played across the continent. The final tournament is scheduled for June to July 2027.
