Bulgaria's Sunny Beach resort has been named the cheapest summer package holiday destination for 2026, according to the annual Post Office Travel Money Holiday Money Report. The analysis of 20 popular European resorts found a one-week trip to the Black Sea coast, including flights, accommodation, and a basket of tourist essentials, would average £221 per person.
The report, which factors in costs for meals, drinks, sunscreen, and insect repellent, highlights the continued value offered by Eastern European destinations. Bulgaria retained its top spot from the previous year, with the total cost rising only marginally due to inflation. Turkey's Marmaris and Albania's capital, Tirana, followed closely behind in the value rankings.
"Despite rising prices in some areas, there are still great-value package holiday deals to be found," a Post Office spokesperson stated. The findings are based on package prices from a major UK tour operator for travel in August 2026, combined with on-the-ground cost data.
In contrast, traditional Western Mediterranean hotspots like the Costa del Sol and the Algarve ranked among the most expensive destinations in the study. The report advises travelers to research both package prices and local costs to maximize their holiday budget.
