A British man has been arrested in Ecuador in connection with the death of a woman whose body was found inside a suitcase in Colombia, authorities confirmed on June 29, 2026.
Matthew Ashley Foster-Smith, 43, was detained in the coastal city of Manta, Ecuador, on suspicion of causing the death of 36-year-old Natalia Villalba. Her body was discovered in a suitcase at an apartment in the Chicó neighborhood of Bogotá, Colombia.
Colombian police said the victim, a Colombian national, had been reported missing. An investigation is ongoing, and Foster-Smith is expected to face extradition proceedings to Colombia.
