NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday launched a scathing attack on Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi after he alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah were 'traitors' who had worked to 'sell the country'. The BJP accused Gandhi of using intemperate language due to frustration over his party's electoral losses.
BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said, 'Frustration is now manifesting in his temperament. Calling the Prime Minister and the Home Minister traitors is an insult to the mandate of 140 crore Indians.' Patra demanded an apology from Gandhi, stating that such remarks undermine democratic discourse.
Rahul Gandhi made the comments during a Congress party event in New Delhi on Wednesday, where he criticized the government's handling of the economy and national security. The Congress leader has not yet responded to the BJP's demand for an apology.
Political analysts note that this exchange reflects the heightened tensions between the ruling party and the opposition ahead of the upcoming state elections. The BJP has consistently accused Gandhi of making unsubstantiated allegations against the government.
