Big Wave Bay Beach, a popular swimming spot in Hong Kong, has officially reopened as of July 28, 2026, following improvements in water quality. The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) announced the reopening after recent tests confirmed that the water quality met the required safety standards for swimming.
The beach had been temporarily closed earlier in July due to elevated bacteria levels, which were linked to heavy rainfall and runoff. Regular monitoring by the Environmental Protection Department (EPD) showed that the water quality has since returned to acceptable levels.
Swimmers are advised to follow safety guidelines, including swimming only within designated areas and paying attention to lifeguard instructions. The LCSD also reminds the public to check for any further updates on water quality before visiting.
