Law students in Bengaluru have joined their counterparts in Hyderabad in opposing the invitation extended to Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant to address their convocation. The students are protesting the presence of Bar Council of India (BCI) Chairman, who they accuse of failing to address issues affecting the legal profession and students.
The protest in Bengaluru follows a similar movement in Hyderabad, where students had earlier objected to the CJI's invitation due to the BCI chief's involvement. The students argue that the BCI has not been responsive to their demands for reforms in legal education and professional standards.
According to reports, the students have written to the university administration, requesting that the BCI chief be excluded from the event. They have also raised concerns about the lack of transparency in the BCI's functioning and its handling of disciplinary matters.
The CJI's office has not yet commented on the matter. The universities involved have not announced any changes to their convocation plans as of now.
