England batter Ben Duckett has withdrawn from the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season. Duckett was bought by the Delhi Capitals for INR 2 crore (approximately £190,000) during the auction held in December 2025.
His late withdrawal, confirmed by the player and franchise, is reported to be due to personal reasons. According to IPL regulations, a late pullout without a valid, board-approved reason can result in a player being banned from the tournament for one year, with the potential for a two-year ban.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the IPL governing council will review the case. If his reasons are not deemed sufficient, Duckett could face the significant sanction, forfeiting his salary for the season and his future participation in the lucrative league.
The Delhi Capitals will now seek a replacement player from the auction's unsold list to fill their squad ahead of the season start, which is scheduled for late March 2026.
