Chloé Matgen, a member of the Parliament of Wallonia for the Workers' Party of Belgium (PTB), has announced her resignation from the party. The announcement was made public on April 18, 2026, through a post on her social media accounts.
In her statement, Matgen cited "internal tensions" and a refusal to "fight against her own camp" as the primary reasons for her departure. She expressed a desire to continue her political work independently, focusing on social and environmental justice, without being constrained by party discipline.
The PTB, in a response reported by Belgian media, acknowledged her departure and stated it respected her decision. The party indicated it would follow its internal procedures to appoint a successor for her parliamentary seat. This resignation occurs amidst a period of growth and increased parliamentary presence for the left-wing PTB in Belgium.
Matgen, who was elected in the 2024 regional elections, represented the constituency of Liège. Her exit reduces the PTB's group in the Walloon Parliament but does not threaten the current regional government's majority.
