The Bauchi State Government, in collaboration with the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Bauchi State Chapter, and the Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD), has trained 30 female journalists on the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools for fact-checking, content creation, and digital safety. The training took place on June 18, 2026, in Bauchi.
Speaking at the event, the Bauchi State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Alhaji Usman Garba, emphasized the importance of AI in modern journalism, urging participants to use the tools responsibly to enhance accuracy and combat misinformation. He noted that the state government is committed to supporting media professionals with relevant skills.
The CITAD representative, Mr. Ibrahim Umar, explained that the training focused on practical applications of AI, including automated fact-checking platforms and ethical considerations. He said the initiative aims to bridge the digital gender gap and empower women journalists in the region.
NAWOJ Chairperson in Bauchi State, Hajiya Aisha Ahmed, expressed gratitude to the partners, stating that the training would enable female journalists to produce more credible and impactful reports. She called for continued support for such capacity-building programs.
