Banijay Entertainment has acquired the global rights to the Norwegian comedy format The Comedy League (original title: Ligaen), as confirmed by the company in an exclusive announcement. The show, produced by Banijay's Norwegian subsidiary Mastiff, has already been recommissioned for a second season on TV2.
The Comedy League features entertainers competing in a series of comedic challenges, with a format designed for local adaptation. The first season aired on TV2 in Norway, and the second season is currently in production.
Banijay, a leading global content producer and distributor, plans to market the format internationally, targeting broadcasters and streaming platforms. The deal was negotiated by Banijay's distribution team, with no financial terms disclosed.
This acquisition expands Banijay's portfolio of comedy formats, which includes hits like Taskmaster and 8 Out of 10 Cats. The company has a strong track record of adapting Nordic formats for global audiences.
