KUALA LUMPUR: A lorry driver pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here on Monday (May 11) to a charge of attempting to murder a man during a shooting incident outside an entertainment centre in Bangsar last month.

A. Lekeswaran, 27, was charged with attempting to murder a 33-year-old man at about 5.30am on April 4, 2026, in Jalan Telawi, Bangsar. The charge under Section 307 of the Penal Code carries a maximum penalty of 20 years' imprisonment upon conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurul Atikah Mohd Zain proposed bail at RM15,000 with one surety, while defence counsel M. Visvanathan requested a lower amount, citing his client's limited income as a lorry driver earning RM2,500 monthly. Judge Siti Aminah Ghazali set bail at RM10,000 with one surety and fixed June 15 for mention.

According to police reports, the victim sustained a gunshot wound to his left thigh and was treated at University Malaya Medical Centre. The case has drawn attention due to the brazen nature of the shooting in a busy commercial area.
