Ayyoub Bouaddi, the 18-year-old Lille midfielder who chose to represent Morocco over France, made history on Thursday by becoming the second youngest player ever to start a World Cup quarterfinal, after Brazilian legend Pelé.
Bouaddi, born on October 2, 2007, was named in Morocco's starting lineup against France in the 2026 FIFA World Cup quarterfinal held in the United States. At 18 years and 281 days, he surpassed the previous record held by other young stars, trailing only Pelé, who was 17 years and 249 days when he played in the 1958 quarterfinal.
The young talent has been a standout performer throughout the tournament, earning praise for his composure and skill. His decision to play for Morocco, the country of his parents, has been widely celebrated in North Africa.
