Joel Greenberg, author of the book "A Feathered River Across the Sky: The Passenger Pigeon's Flight to Extinction," is scheduled to speak in Oskaloosa, Iowa. The event, hosted by the Mahaska County Conservation Board, will take place on Wednesday, April 2, 2026, at 7:00 PM at the Environmental Learning Center.

Greenberg's 2014 book is a seminal history of the passenger pigeon, a species that went extinct in 1914. His work details the bird's once-massive populations and the ecological and market-hunting pressures that led to its disappearance.

The presentation will cover the history of the species and the lessons its extinction holds for modern conservation efforts. The event is free and open to the public, with no registration required.
