Austrian manufacturer Ochsner Energy Systems has launched a new series of air-to-water heat pumps designed for residential and commercial use. The "Green Line" series utilizes propane (R290) as a natural refrigerant, which has a significantly lower global warming potential (GWP) than many synthetic alternatives.

The heat pumps are designed to provide space heating and domestic hot water. The company states that the use of propane, a non-toxic and readily available gas, improves the system's environmental profile and energy efficiency. The launch aligns with the European Union's F-Gas Regulation, which aims to phase down the use of high-GWP refrigerants.

Ochsner highlights that the series includes models suitable for both new builds and renovations, with a focus on reducing carbon emissions from building heating. The technology represents a step in the heating industry's shift towards more sustainable refrigerants in response to climate targets.
