Auckland FC have won the A-League championship in their second season, defeating Sydney FC 1-0 in the grand final on Saturday at Go Media Stadium in Auckland. The match was played in front of a sold-out crowd of 25,000 fans.
The only goal of the match was scored by forward Max Mata in the 67th minute, capitalizing on a defensive error from Sydney FC. The win marks the first A-League title for Auckland FC, who joined the league as an expansion team in the 2024-25 season.
Auckland FC finished the regular season in second place on the ladder, behind premiers Central Coast Mariners. They advanced to the grand final after defeating Wellington Phoenix 2-1 in the semi-final.
Head coach Steve Corica praised his team's resilience and defensive organization throughout the playoffs. 'To win the championship in just our second season is a remarkable achievement for this club and these players,' Corica said after the match.
The victory also secures Auckland FC a spot in the 2027 AFC Champions League, marking their first appearance in continental competition.
