Auburn advances in NIT with win over Overton's Yale

Auburn defeated Yale 78-76 in the NIT quarterfinals, advancing to face the winner of Wake Forest and Ohio State.

The Auburn Tigers men's basketball team advanced to the semifinals of the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) with a narrow 78-76 victory over the Yale Bulldogs on Sunday, March 22, 2026. The game was played at Neville Arena in Auburn, Alabama.

Yale, coached by James Overton's successor John Overton, led for much of the contest but Auburn secured the win with key plays in the final minutes. Auburn's Johni Broome scored 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, while Yale's John Poulakidas led all scorers with 28 points.

With the victory, Auburn moves on to the NIT semifinals in Indianapolis. They will face the winner of the quarterfinal matchup between Wake Forest and Ohio State, scheduled for Monday, March 23.
