Attijariwafa bank, Morocco's largest banking group by assets, has officially launched 'Simple', a new neobank designed to expand access to digital banking services across the country. The announcement was made on May 26, 2026, marking a decade after the group introduced Bankalik, its first 100% mobile banking service.
According to the bank's press release, Simple offers a fully digital account opening process, a contactless Mastercard, and real-time transaction management through a mobile app. The neobank targets both existing clients and unbanked populations, with no monthly fees for basic services.
Group Chairman Mohamed El Kettani stated that Simple represents 'a new step in our strategy to make banking accessible to all Moroccans, leveraging technology to reduce costs and simplify procedures.' The service is initially available in major cities, with plans to expand nationwide by the end of 2026.
Industry analysts note that Simple enters a competitive market, with other Moroccan banks and fintech startups already offering similar digital services. However, Attijariwafa's extensive branch network and brand recognition may give it an advantage in building trust among new users.
