The All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship Screening Committee has cleared Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat to participate in the party's primary for the 2027 governorship election. The screening took place in Abuja on May 9, 2026, according to party sources.
Hamzat, who has served as deputy to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu since 2019, is seeking the APC ticket to succeed his boss. Sanwo-Olu is term-limited and cannot run again. The primary is expected to be held later this month.
The screening committee, chaired by a former governor, verified Hamzat's credentials and found him eligible. Other aspirants are also expected to undergo screening. The APC has not yet announced a date for the primary.
