Anthony Hopkins, the Welsh-born actor known for his iconic film roles, has released his debut album on Decca Records titled 'Life Is a Dream'. The album, released on August 21, 2026, features Hopkins's original compositions performed by the Los Angeles Philharmonic under the baton of Gustavo Dudamel, the orchestra's outgoing music director.
Hopkins, who turned 88 in December 2025, has been composing music since his youth, but this marks his first major label release. The album includes a piano concerto and other orchestral works, showcasing a lifelong passion that has often taken a backseat to his acting career.
The collaboration with Dudamel came about after Hopkins sent him a demo recording. Dudamel, who has led the LA Phil since 2009 and is set to become music director of the New York Philharmonic in 2026, praised Hopkins's melodic gift and emotional depth in the music.
Critics have noted the album's accessible, lyrical style, with The Guardian describing it as 'easy on the ear melodies written from the heart'. The album is available on streaming platforms and as a physical release.
