Angers SCO defender Jordan Lefort has decided to represent the Mauritania national football team, the Mauritanian Football Federation (FFRIM) announced. The 30-year-old French-born player, who has been a key figure for the Ligue 2 club, is now eligible for selection by the Mourabitounes.

Lefort, who previously represented France at youth levels, made the switch through his Mauritanian heritage. The FFRIM confirmed the administrative process for his change of sporting nationality has been completed with FIFA.

The experienced center-back brings significant professional experience to the Mauritanian squad as they prepare for upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers and the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. His decision follows a growing trend of diaspora players committing to African national teams.

Lefort has made over 150 appearances for Angers SCO since joining in 2020, helping the club achieve promotion to Ligue 1 and later serving as captain. His integration is expected to bolster Mauritania's defensive options under coach Amir Abdou.
