Warner Bros. unveiled new details about the upcoming film "The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum" during its presentation at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. The studio confirmed that Andy Serkis will direct the film and reprise his iconic role as Gollum.
The film is currently in the early stages of script development, with writers Phoebe Gittins and Arty Papageorgiou working alongside Serkis. It is produced by Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, and Philippa Boyens, the creative team behind the original "Lord of the Rings" trilogy.
While specific plot details remain under wraps, the story is expected to explore Gollum's history. Warner Bros. has slated the film for a theatrical release in 2026. No other casting announcements were made at the presentation.
The project is part of Warner Bros. Discovery's new multi-year deal to produce more films based on J.R.R. Tolkien's works, focusing on stories from the Third Age of Middle-earth.
