Carlo Ancelotti, the Italian manager who took over as head coach of the Brazil national football team in 2024, is set to face his first major test at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The tournament, co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, began on June 11, 2026, with Brazil's opening match scheduled for June 15 against Serbia in Group G.
Ancelotti, who previously led Real Madrid to multiple Champions League titles, was appointed by the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) in July 2024, replacing Tite. His tenure has been marked by high expectations, as Brazil seeks its sixth World Cup title, the first since 2002.
The team's preparation included a series of friendlies and qualifiers, with Brazil topping the South American qualifying table. Key players such as Vinícius Júnior, Neymar (who returned from injury), and Rodrygo are expected to feature prominently in Ancelotti's tactical setup.
Ancelotti described the World Cup as a 'true test' of his ability to lead a national team, having spent most of his career at club level. 'This is different from club football,' he said in a pre-tournament press conference. 'We have less time to prepare, but the quality of the squad gives me confidence.'
Brazil's group stage also includes matches against Switzerland and Cameroon, with the team aiming to advance to the knockout rounds. The tournament runs until July 19, 2026.
