Professional dancer Amy Dowden has shared an emotional update on her future with BBC's Strictly Come Dancing, following a gruelling year of treatment for breast cancer. In an interview with Hello! magazine, Dowden confirmed she has finished her active treatment, which included a mastectomy and chemotherapy.
The 33-year-old Welsh dancer was diagnosed in May 2023 and had to miss the 2023 series of Strictly Come Dancing while undergoing treatment. She made several guest appearances on the show during the last series but was not paired with a celebrity contestant.
Dowden stated she is now in remission and is 'determined' to return to the professional dancer line-up for the 2024 series. She has begun light training and physiotherapy to rebuild her strength and dancing ability. Her journey has been documented on social media, where she has received widespread support from fans and fellow Strictly professionals.
The dancer also highlighted the importance of early detection and regular check-ups, using her platform to raise awareness about breast cancer. The BBC has not yet officially confirmed the professional dancer line-up for the upcoming series of Strictly Come Dancing.
