Amnesty International has released its annual report for 2025, covering 2024, warning of a deteriorating global human rights landscape. The report, titled "The State of the World’s Human Rights," criticizes world leaders for fueling conflicts, undermining international law, and normalizing hate speech.
The organization specifically cited the actions of leaders including Russia's Vladimir Putin, Israel's Benjamin Netanyahu, and former US President Donald Trump. It accuses them of predatory behavior that exacerbates human suffering and weakens global institutions designed to protect rights.
Amnesty's Secretary General, Agnès Callamard, called for public resistance against these trends, urging people to hold leaders accountable. The report highlights the wars in Ukraine and Gaza, as well as democratic backsliding in various countries, as primary examples of the crisis.
The findings are based on Amnesty's research across more than 150 countries. The organization asserts that a collective global response is necessary to counter the erosion of human rights standards and humanitarian law.
