American Airlines had touted its new Philadelphia-to-Casablanca route as a highlight of its summer 2020 international schedule. The inaugural flight was scheduled for June 4, 2020, but the route never materialized.
According to multiple aviation sources, the route was canceled before any flights operated. The airline cited the COVID-19 pandemic's impact on international travel demand as the primary reason for the cancellation.
Moroccan news outlet Bladi.net reported that the cancellation was a setback for travelers who had booked the direct connection. American Airlines later removed the route from its schedule and did not reinstate it in subsequent seasons.
As of August 2026, American Airlines does not operate any flights to Casablanca, and no resumption has been announced.
