On the occasion of World Health Day, celebrated annually on April 7, Algeria's Minister of Health and Social Protection, Amine Tehraoui, chaired a meeting alongside the World Health Organization (WHO) Representative in Algeria, Dr. Mondher Letaief, to discuss the strengthening of health cooperation between Algeria and the WHO.
The meeting focused on reviewing ongoing health programs and identifying new areas of collaboration, with particular emphasis on improving public health infrastructure, disease surveillance, and health system resilience across Algeria. Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to advancing the health and well-being of the Algerian population in line with WHO global health priorities.
World Health Day 2026 serves as an important occasion for member states and the WHO to renew their partnerships and assess progress toward universal health coverage goals. Algeria has been working to modernize its health sector and align national health strategies with international standards set by the WHO.
The discussions also touched on capacity-building initiatives and technical assistance programs that the WHO can provide to support Algeria's national health development plans. Officials underscored the importance of sustained cooperation to address emerging public health challenges in the region.
