Alabama and football coach Kalen DeBoer have agreed to a new seven-year contract extension, raising his annual salary to $12.5 million and doubling his buyout if he leaves the Crimson Tide within the next three years, the university announced Wednesday.
The deal, approved by the University of Alabama System Board of Trustees, replaces the previous contract DeBoer signed when he was hired in January 2024. The new contract runs through the 2031 season and includes a $5 million annual retention bonus, according to board documents.
DeBoer's buyout, if he leaves for another job before March 2027, increases from $5 million to $10 million. After that, the buyout decreases gradually. The contract also includes performance bonuses for reaching bowl games, winning the SEC championship, and winning a national title.
DeBoer, 50, led Alabama to a 10-3 record in his first season, including a win over Michigan in the ReliaQuest Bowl. He replaced Nick Saban, who retired after the 2023 season.
