Ajax Amsterdam winger Amourricho van Axel Dongen has officially declared his international future, opting to represent Morocco. The 19-year-old Dutch-born player, who is eligible through his Moroccan father, confirmed his decision to the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF).

Van Axel Dongen, a product of the Ajax youth academy, has been a regular for Jong Ajax and made his first-team debut in 2023. His choice represents a significant recruitment win for Morocco, which has actively pursued dual-nationality talents. He had previously represented the Netherlands at various youth levels.

The Moroccan football federation announced the player's commitment, stating he had chosen to wear the Atlas Lions' jersey. This decision follows the trend of several European-born players with Moroccan heritage, like Sofyan Amrabat and Noussair Mazraoui, choosing to play for the North African nation.

Van Axel Dongen's switch makes him eligible for selection by Morocco head coach Badou Zaki ahead of upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers and the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. His addition bolsters Morocco's attacking options as they build on their historic semi-final run at the 2022 World Cup.
