Airtel Money, the mobile money division of Airtel Africa, is reportedly preparing for an initial public offering (IPO) in London, according to multiple media reports. The listing would mark a major milestone for one of Africa's largest fintech platforms, which provides mobile wallet services across 14 African countries.
Airtel Africa, which is dual-listed on the London Stock Exchange and the Nigerian Exchange, has not officially confirmed the timing or size of the potential IPO. The company has previously stated its intention to eventually list Airtel Money as a separate entity to unlock value.
The move comes as mobile money services continue to expand rapidly across Africa, driven by increasing smartphone penetration and demand for digital financial services. Airtel Money competes with platforms such as M-Pesa (Safaricom) and MTN Mobile Money.
If the IPO proceeds, it would be one of the largest London listings by an African company in recent years. However, details remain speculative until Airtel Africa makes a formal announcement.
