An airstrike targeted a military base in Iraq's western Anbar province on Wednesday, killing seven fighters and wounding 13 others, the Iraqi Ministry of Defence confirmed. The attack struck the military healthcare clinic at the Habbaniyah base.
The Iraqi government condemned the strike as a "heinous crime" and a violation of its sovereignty. While no party has officially claimed responsibility, the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) stated it conducted a self-defense strike in Iraq on Wednesday against a drone facility operated by Kataib Hezbollah, which it described as an Iran-backed militia.
The incident has heightened tensions in the region. Iraqi officials have stated they are investigating the attack, which they said resulted from an act of "aggression" against an Iraqi military site.
