As Morocco celebrates Eid al-Adha on May 28, 2026, a new trend is emerging: the use of generative artificial intelligence to craft personalized greetings. According to a report by Le Matin, many Moroccans are turning to AI tools like ChatGPT to generate unique messages for family and friends, blending traditional well-wishes with modern technology.
The practice reflects a broader adoption of AI in daily life. A 2025 study by the Moroccan Digital Agency found that 34% of internet users in Morocco had used generative AI for personal communication. For Eid, users input prompts in Darija or French, requesting poems, jokes, or heartfelt notes, which AI then produces in seconds.
However, cultural experts caution that AI-generated messages may lack the personal touch of handwritten notes or phone calls. 'The essence of Eid greetings is sincerity and personal connection,' said Dr. Fatima Zahra, a sociologist at Mohammed V University in Rabat, in an interview with Hespress. 'While AI can assist, it cannot replace genuine human emotion.'
Despite these concerns, the trend is growing. Social media platforms like Instagram and WhatsApp are flooded with AI-crafted Eid cards and videos, often featuring animated sheep or crescent moons. Tech startups in Casablanca have even launched specialized apps for AI-generated Eid content, with one app, 'EidAI,' reportedly downloaded 50,000 times in the week before the holiday.
