BAGUIO CITY, Philippines — A motorist who ignored a pedestrian lane in this city has been tracked down with the use of artificial intelligence (AI), according to the local government.
The incident involved a gray Toyota Innova caught on a closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera failing to yield to pedestrians at a marked crosswalk. The city's AI-powered traffic management system analyzed the footage and identified the vehicle's license plate, leading to the issuance of a citation.
Mayor Benjamin Magalong said the system is part of the city's broader smart city initiative to improve road safety and enforce traffic laws. The motorist faces a fine of P1,000 for the violation, as per the city's traffic code.
