The African Development Bank (AfDB) is supporting Morocco's transition to precision agriculture, aiming to enhance resilience and inclusivity in the sector. This initiative aligns with Morocco's Green Generation 2020-2030 strategy, which seeks to modernize agriculture and improve food security.
Precision agriculture involves using advanced technologies like GPS, sensors, and data analytics to optimize crop yields and reduce resource use. The AfDB's support includes financial backing and technical assistance to help Moroccan farmers adopt these methods, particularly in arid and semi-arid regions.
According to the AfDB, the project focuses on smallholder farmers, promoting sustainable practices that increase productivity while conserving water and soil. This is crucial for Morocco, where agriculture accounts for about 14% of GDP and employs over 40% of the workforce.
The initiative is part of broader efforts to combat climate change impacts, such as droughts and water scarcity, which threaten agricultural output. By fostering innovation and inclusivity, the AfDB aims to boost rural livelihoods and economic stability.
