Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has accused some elements within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state of orchestrating moves to disrupt the August 15, 2026, governorship election out of fear of defeat.
The governor, in a statement issued on Thursday, April 30, 2026, by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, said the APC is planning to use federal security agencies to intimidate voters and manipulate the electoral process. Adeleke called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to remain neutral and ensure a free and fair election.
βWe have credible intelligence that the APC, in collaboration with some federal security chiefs, is plotting to disrupt the peaceful conduct of the governorship election in Osun State,β the statement read. βThey are afraid of losing again, so they are resorting to undemocratic tactics.β
The APC has denied the allegations, with its state chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, describing the governor's claims as baseless and a diversion from his administration's failures. Lawal urged Adeleke to focus on governance rather than making unfounded accusations.
Political analysts have expressed concern over the rising tensions ahead of the election, calling on all parties to adhere to the electoral act and avoid violence. INEC has assured the public of its commitment to conducting a credible election.
