The spokesperson for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Prince Chinedu Okafor, has claimed that a potential presidential ticket combining former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi could defeat the incumbent President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima in the 2027 general election.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on July 19, 2026, Okafor argued that the Atiku-Amaechi pairing would bring together experience and regional balance, appealing to voters across the North and South. He stated, 'This is a winning combination that can unseat the current administration.'
However, neither Atiku Abubakar nor Rotimi Amaechi has publicly confirmed any plans to run on the ADC platform. Atiku, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the 2023 election, has not announced his 2027 intentions. Amaechi, a former Minister of Transportation, left the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2025 but has not joined the ADC.
Political analysts note that such a ticket would face significant legal and logistical hurdles, including party primaries and potential court challenges. The ADC, which holds no governorship seats and few legislative positions, would need to build a broad coalition to be competitive.
As of July 2026, no official alliance between Atiku and Amaechi has been announced, and the ADC's claim remains speculative.
