The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has expressed its commitment to support Bangladesh's ambition of becoming a trillion-dollar economy by 2034, according to Yingming Yang, the bank's Country Director for Bangladesh. Yang made the remarks during a meeting with Bangladesh's Finance Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed on August 17, 2026, in Dhaka.
Yang highlighted Bangladesh's strong economic fundamentals and growth potential, stating that the ADB is ready to provide technical and financial assistance to help the country achieve this target. He also discussed ongoing and future projects in sectors such as energy, infrastructure, and human capital development.
The meeting comes as Bangladesh aims to sustain its economic growth trajectory, with the government focusing on reforms to attract investment and improve productivity. The ADB has been a long-standing partner in Bangladesh's development, with a portfolio of over $13 billion in committed loans and grants as of 2025.
Finance Adviser Ahmed welcomed the ADB's support and discussed priority areas for cooperation, including climate resilience and private sector development. The two sides agreed to strengthen collaboration to ensure the country's inclusive and sustainable growth.
