ACWA Power, a Saudi developer and operator of power generation and desalinated water plants, has expanded its Khalladi wind farm in Morocco by adding 40 megawatts (MW) of capacity. The expansion brings the total capacity of the wind farm to 120 MW, according to company announcements and industry reports.
The Khalladi wind farm, located near Tangier in northern Morocco, originally had a capacity of 80 MW and began operations in 2018. The project is part of Morocco's efforts to increase its renewable energy capacity, targeting 52% of installed capacity from renewables by 2030.
The expansion was completed in 2025, with the additional 40 MW coming online in the first half of the year. ACWA Power did not disclose the specific financial terms of the expansion but noted that it was financed through a combination of equity and debt.
The wind farm uses turbines supplied by Siemens Gamesa, and the electricity generated is sold under a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Moroccan national electricity office, ONEE. The expansion is expected to power an additional 40,000 homes and reduce carbon emissions by approximately 100,000 tons per year.
