Seven people were killed and seven others injured after a wall of an adjoining building collapsed near the Bowring and Lady Curzon Medical College and Research Institute in Bengaluru on Wednesday evening, April 22, 2026, triggering a large-scale rescue operation.
The incident occurred near the hospital's emergency entrance, where a wall from a neighboring construction site gave way, trapping several individuals under debris. Rescue teams, including fire services and local police, worked through the night to extract the victims.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced a compensation of ₹5 lakh (approximately $6,000) for the families of each deceased and ₹1 lakh for the injured. He also ordered an investigation into the cause of the collapse.
Local authorities have detained the contractor responsible for the construction site, and a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code for negligence leading to death.
