On June 25, 2026, the 442 Transport and Rescue Squadron, based at CFB Comox, conducted a rescue operation on the West Coast Trail in Pacific Rim National Park Reserve, British Columbia. The squadron airlifted an injured hiker who had sustained a lower leg injury and was unable to continue the trek.
The rescue was carried out using a CH-149 Cormorant helicopter. The hiker was hoisted from the trail and transported to a hospital in Victoria for medical treatment. The operation was completed without incident, according to a statement from the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre Victoria.
The West Coast Trail is a 75-kilometer rugged hiking route known for its challenging terrain and remote location. Rescues on the trail are not uncommon, especially during the summer hiking season. The 442 Squadron regularly performs such missions in the region.
