MUMBAI: A family of four died on Sunday due to suspected food poisoning after consuming watermelon, police said on Monday. The deceased were identified as Abdullla Abdul Kadar (40), his wife Nasreen (35), and their two daughters aged 16 and 13.
The incident occurred in the Govandi area of Mumbai. According to police, the family had eaten watermelon on Saturday night and began showing symptoms of food poisoning early Sunday morning. They were rushed to a nearby hospital, where they were declared dead.
Police have registered a case of accidental death and are investigating the matter. Samples of the watermelon have been sent for forensic analysis to determine the exact cause of death. Preliminary reports suggest the presence of a toxic substance, possibly a pesticide or chemical used to ripen the fruit.
