The Moroccan National Olympic Committee (CNOM) officially launched preparations for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics by awarding Olympic scholarships to 23 athletes from eight sports disciplines. The ceremony took place in Rabat on May 1, 2026, according to CNOM officials.
The scholarships are designed to support athletes in their training and competition schedules over the next two years, covering expenses such as coaching, equipment, and travel. The selected athletes represent sports including athletics, boxing, judo, swimming, and taekwondo, among others.
CNOM President Faouzi Lekjaa emphasized the importance of early preparation, stating, 'These scholarships are a crucial step to ensure our athletes have the resources they need to compete at the highest level in Los Angeles.' The initiative is part of Morocco's broader strategy to improve its Olympic performance, following a mixed showing at the 2024 Paris Games.
The scholarships are funded through a combination of government support and International Olympic Committee (IOC) solidarity funds. Athletes will be monitored regularly, with performance benchmarks to ensure continued funding.
