FIFA has announced a record $1.2 billion distribution to its 211 member associations for the 2026 World Cup, with each African federation set to receive $10 million. This marks a significant increase from the $8 million allocated per federation for the 2022 tournament in Qatar.
The funds are part of FIFA's Forward Programme, aimed at developing football globally. The 54 African member associations will collectively receive $540 million, which they can use for infrastructure, youth development, and administrative costs.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino confirmed the figures during a press conference in Kigali, Rwanda, on March 15, 2026. He emphasized that the increased funding reflects the growing importance of African football, especially with the expanded 48-team format for the 2026 World Cup.
The distribution is scheduled to be paid in two installments: 50% in July 2026 and the remaining 50% in January 2027. African federations are expected to submit detailed plans for the use of the funds to FIFA by June 30, 2026.
