KOLKATA: The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has identified 17 properties allegedly owned or co-owned by Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee, his company, and family members for scrutiny over unauthorized constructions. Among these is 'Shantiniketan' on Harish Mukherjee Road, where a notice was pasted on Monday for alleged unauthorized construction.
The properties under the KMC lens include residential and commercial buildings across Kolkata. Officials stated that the notices were issued after inspections revealed deviations from approved building plans. The KMC has given the owners 15 days to respond to the notices.
Abhishek Banerjee, a nephew of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, has not yet commented on the matter. The KMC action comes amid ongoing political tensions in the state, with opposition parties accusing the ruling party of corruption.
